The Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall and the SDGs
The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and promote peace and prosperity for all. These goals cover a broad spectrum – from combating climate change and preserving biodiversity to promoting education, equality and sustainable economic growth. The Mëllerdall UNESCO Global Geopark is actively committed to implementing the SDGs in our region. Each of these goals requires committed cooperation and action at all levels – from global to local.

Every little action counts!
Here are some simple tips on how you can be more environmentally conscious in your everyday life:
Preserve traditions through regional products
Food security and sustainable agriculture
We strengthen local production and thus support both food security and the regional economy.
- Buy regional and seasonal products: Support local farmers and reduce transport emissions.
- Buy directly from the producer: Visit weekly markets, farm shops or take part in harvest projects.
- Avoid food waste: Plan meals, buy only what you need, use leftovers creatively.
- Favour organic products: Promote sustainable agriculture and healthy soils.
- Support local initiatives: Get involved in community gardens.
Sharing knowledge for high-quality education
Sharing is caring!
Sharing knowledge means caring for our community.
- Share educational resources: Donate books, teaching materials or technical equipment to schools or educational projects.
- Spread online knowledge: Share valuable information and educational resources via blogs, social media or community platforms.
- Volunteering: Support educational institutions or associations as a mentor or tutor.
- Encourage knowledge exchange: Organise or take part in local workshops, lectures.
Every stone tells a story
High-quality education through nature and history experience
The rocks of the Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall tell of millions of years of the earth’s history and the connection between nature and man.
- Geological hikes: Use local hiking trails e.g. the Geo-Pad in Beaufort to discover your region’s geological formations and their history.
- Nature tours and workshops: Take part in guided tours to learn more about the geological and cultural history of your area.
- Preserving cultural heritage: Help preserve geological and cultural monuments to pass on valuable knowledge to future generations.
- Sustainable learning: Promote lifelong learning by visiting museums that focus on geological history. Insider tip: Visit the Geo-Expo in Beaufort!
Protect clean drinking water
Protect our drinking water through conscious actions!
The Mëllerdall Nature and Geopark is self-sufficient in drinking water, making it even more important to protect this valuable resource and use it responsibly.
- Dispose of waste correctly: Never pour chemicals such as paints, oils, or medicines down the drain.
- Save water: Collect rainwater, take shorter showers instead of baths, and install flow restrictors.
- Use eco-friendly products: Choose environmentally friendly detergents and cleaning supplies.
- Avoid harmful chemicals: Avoid using pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
Support our regional businesses
Support your locals!
Regional businesses are the backbone of our economy. Supporting them actively helps build and sustain a vibrant local community.
- Buy local and seasonal products: Choose regional food and goods to support local producers and reduce transport emissions.
- Use local services: Hire nearby artisans, service providers, and dine at local restaurants.
- Spread the word: Share your positive experiences with regional businesses to help them grow.
Get active for climate protection
Together for our climate!
Climate protection depends on many individual actions—each one contributes to the bigger picture.
- Increase energy efficiency at home: Improve insolation, switch to renewable energy, and install smart heating systems.
- Conserve resources: Reduce and recycle waste, choose second-hand items, upcycle where possible, and save water.
- Support sustainable mobility: Use public transport, walk or cycle, share rides, and switch to electric vehicles when possible.
Preserve and promote biodiversity
Protect nature and actively contribute to biodiversity!
Water protection starts inland—whatever ends up in our rivers and lakes eventually reaches the sea.
- Reduce plastic waste: Avoid single-use plastics to prevent water pollution.
- Use water wisely: Conserve water to reduce pressure on our oceans and rivers.
- Keep waters clean: Join local clean-up efforts or make sure to dispose of waste properly when enjoying the outdoors.
For nature and environmental protection
Protect our nature and actively contribute to preserving biodiversity!
Life on land is essential for maintaining ecological balance and ensuring our survival—it provides us with clean air, food, and habitats for countless species.
- Create habitats: Install nesting boxes, insect hotels, or leave piles of leaves and wood as shelters for wildlife.
- Plant native species: Native plants support local wildlife and promote biodiversity.
- Natural landscaping: Plant native wildflowers, shrubs, and fruit trees, which provide food sources and breeding grounds for animals and insects.
- Protect habitats: Avoid using pesticides and chemical fertilizers to safeguard the soil and wildlife.
- Protect endangered species: Help conserve and connect biotopes by maintaining meadows, hedgerows, wetlands, and dry-stone walls.
