As part of the “City Nature Challenge”, a guided butterfly walk on the Hëlt in Rosport will take place this year in collaboration of the 3 nature parks. The aim is to identify as many animal and plant species as possible with the help of the app iNaturalist. The diverse terrain and microclimate provide a unique habitat for a variety of insect species. Of particular interest to insects is the heat-favoured south-facing slope with its vineyards, dry stone walls and dry meadows. Here, many butterflies can already be observed early in the year. In contrast to the southern slope, the northern slope is a densely forested area that remains cool even in summer and is used by insects as a refuge when temperatures are high.
