Kick-Off NGPM Week: Lecture: The future of a landscape
22. May 2023 @ 19:30 - 20:30
The challenges of our time are enormous and sometimes make us feel uneasy. However, optimism is the key to success. Many new issues invite us to take active action. With joy and confidence, we can become active and shape the future. Sustainability and biodiversity are key words here, coupled with beauty and enjoyment, we can act very effectively, especially regionally. The sum of all regional activities has a great effect on solving global challenges; because the world consists exclusively of regions in which we can act.
The speaker Philipp Unterweger
Philipp Unterweger (born 1986) was already interested in biology, ecology and horticulture during his school years. His civilian service on an organic farm strengthened his conviction in working with ecological contexts. He studied biology, German language and literature and art history at the University of Tübingen, and on many excursions and trips he dealt with biodiversity in protected areas and in cultural landscapes and ecosystems used by humans. In his multi-award-winning research project “Initiative Bunte Wiese” (colourful meadow initiative), he combined the practical approaches of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) with the scientific issues of biodiversity and social research. His focus was on the acceptance of nature conservation measures by the population and the scientific investigation of different grassland management on insect populations. This research yielded extensive results that can optimise urban and rural grasslands through adapted management and optimised public relations to reduce insect mortality and increase biodiversity. With this offer, he wants to encourage people to participate in a sustainable society with courage, idealism and heart and soul, and to shape the world peacefully, humanely, ecologically and with respect for the environment.
